Speaking about USA repair shops, I'd say it's rare to find one who would overhaul an XA for less than $60--which raises the question of whether you'd do better to find another XA for less money. Of course any XA that's getting to be 20 ...

In the meantime, I've found a repair workshop in Milton Keynes who knows of the fault (to do with shutter magnets) and will fix it for £20! Worth a pop? (Considering the rest of the camera, lens, light seals, etc are in mint condition?) ...

Fixd the bloody thing! Removed the bottom plate, blew at the mechanism a bit and then resorted to tapping hard the camera plateless bottom agains the table. Some dust and grit came out and presto, it works! Thanks for the repair manual!

I got myself a birthday present a few weeks ago of a new (to me) XA off of ebay. The batteries promptly died, and now that I've replaced them with (proper 1.5v silver oxide camera specific) fresh batteries the battery light indicator ...

Reply to XA - needle in viewfinder seems weird
I believe the ceramic plate to be slightly damaged on my XA causing a complete drop-off of metering intermittently unless I wiggle the focus lever to get it back working. Unfortunately it sounds like quite an expensive repair, ...
